As I started drawing again, I wondered if I should experiment with colours and wandered off getting a watercolour paint set. It has been twenty years since I last dabbled with watercolours.
I had fun doing that bit of colouring for the day, but soon realised the constraints we would face with coloured illustrations. Nobody publishes a novel in full colour – that would be an expensive book to print.
With just the linework, I could digitally add in the honeybees from the previous drawing. This way, there are fewer distractions about colours and more free play with the elements. Perhaps, by keeping it simple, we could encourage readers to fill in their colourings?
